A Review of Car-Following Models and Modeling Tools for Human and Autonomous-Ready Driving Behaviors in Micro-Simulation

The platform of a microscopic traffic simulation provides an opportunity to study the driving behavior vehicles on roadway system. Compared traditional conventional cars with human drivers, car-following behaviors autonomous (AVs) and connected (CAVs) would be quite different hence require additional modeling efforts. This paper presents thorough review literature models used in prevalent micro-simulation tools for both robot drivers. Specifically, logics such as Wiedemann model adaptive cruise control technology were reviewed based vehicle’s dynamic environments. In addition, some more recent “AV-ready (autonomous ready) tools” platforms are also discussed this paper.
